Substitute Teaching

Looking for a flexible work schedule, and a chance to make a difference?  Georgetown Independent School District's substitutes are a vital element in the success of our students.  We are always looking for qualified substitutes to join our team.  In order to become a substitute for GISD, you must hold a high school diploma or its equivalent.  In addition, you will need to complete all application documents and attend a substitute orientation session.   All documents will be brought with you to the orientation.

Substitute orientations are held in the board room at the Central Administration Office at 603 Lakeway Drive. You will need to register in advance for an orientation session by calling the substitute office at 943-5007. Orientation session dates are posted on this page when available.

Substitutes are paid a daily rate based on their assignment and Texas teaching certification status:

  • $60.00/day for a substitute with a High School Diploma or GED

  • $70.00/day for a substitute with a Bachelor's Degree

  • $80.00/day for a substitute with a valid Texas Teaching Certificate or RN

  • $90.00/day for a long-term substitute with a valid Texas Teaching Certificate or RN

Upcoming Substitute Orientations

  • 1/13/2009    SUBSTITUTE ORIENTATION     1:00-3:00    District Office Administration Board Room

What to Bring to the Orientation

You  will need to bring the following items with you to the orientation:

1.  A completed Substitute Teaching Application (pdf)

2.  Copies of your high school diploma, college diploma, college transcript, or teaching certificate.

3.  Original proof of identity and employment eligibility (a driver's license and social security card are acceptable) and a photocopy of those documents.

Before you begin work at GISD, you must also complete these documents.  Please download these forms and bring them with you to the orientation.  If you need help completing these forms, it is available at the orientation.

5.  Employment Eligibility Form (I - 9) (Complete Section I Only)

6.  Federal Withholding Exemption Form (W - 4)

7.  Criminal History Background Check Authorization

Senate Bill 9, also known as the "Fingerprinting Bill", was signed into law by Governor Perry in the Fall of 2007. This bill requires that all substitutes undergo a national criminal history record information review by the Texas Education Agency (TEA). Therefore, before you can be employed as a substitute in Georgetown ISD, you will be required to provide your fingerprints to be checked against the national criminal history database.

You will be required to pay the fees associated with the fingerprinting process. The cost is from $51.00 to $53.00 depending on the method of payment. Additional details concerning the fingerprinting process will be provided when you attend orientation.

We appreciate your interest in becoming part of the Georgetown Independent School District.
